Kin Domain Dream

The last week of April. What a busy time. The sweet earth is yawning, stretching, and ready to yield her abundance. The farmer's used to say, "make hay while the sun shines." I've had to remind the city folk the true meaning behind these words. House cleaning, emails, phone calls, cooking, writing, meetings, sports, take a backseat to being outdoors and preparing the garden. Using the cosmic planting method means special intent is given to the element we define as time. Time. We measure time in so many ways. The seasons. How long it takes to build a house, grow a garden, raise children. A mentor of mine, Brooke Medicine Eagle (Chalise Brooke) tells her story of the past twelve months. Although more difficult than some could imagine, she remains full of bright promise and love--always abundant love. She is living out her Kin Domain dream her space of love. The above link will take you to her website. Blessings.

Kin Domain Celebrates Earth Day

There hasn't been much time to blog this week because I take Earth Day/Week seriously. The weather spiked and the raspberries needed drip line. The spring weather has been so dry that I was getting concerned my transplants wouldn't make it to summer. A large project I'm whittling away at is that I'm reverting our wooden fence into a "living fence", hence I'm planting cedars as a noise and visual barrier. Add to all the planting, the four new additions to the garden. Wilma, Whinny, Winona, and Willie are my Rhodes Island Red chicks who by fall will be brooding. Isn't she cute?

Earth Day Blessings

My calendar says today is Earth Day. I spent the day installing a rain barrel for the nearby Unitarian church. I transitioned my seedlings to the outside to start the hardening off period. Another week or two and the ground will be ready. Tomorrow the baby chicks arrive. What a grand week!

Energy of Love

“The day will come when, after harnessing space, the winds, the tides, and gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, we shall have discovered fire.’ "(The Evolution of Chastity, in Toward the Future, 1936, XI, 86-87)

Future Food

Here in my hand I hold the divine promise of co-creation. Seeds are such a miracle. Used in combination with human inspiration and the sweetness of mother earth, we get new life--life which sustains us. These seeds are part of a project designed by our local environmental group. The seeds will be pumpkins. Children, teens, and adults have joined together to grow these pumpkins and sell them to raise money for a local food bank. The process from seed to sale is done with love and desire to co-create. The photo below the seeds are the young seedlings. They were planted on March 21, 2009 nearly four weeks ago.

Reflection on Thoughts

I've always felt a certain affinity towards this song used at the Unity churches across the U.S. Perhaps now I understand it is because Anastasia holds such a high regard for thought and asks that all humans respect the silent thought process of others.

Our thoughts are prayers and
we are always praying.
Our thoughts are prayers,
Be careful what you're saying.
Seek a higher consciousness:
a state of peacefulness.
And know that God is always there.
And every thought becomes a prayer.

Oh, gentle dawn

“I think over again my small adventures

My fears, those small ones that seemed so big

For all the vital things I had to get and reach

And yet there is only one great thing

The only thing

To live to see the great day that dawns

And the light that fills the world.”

- Unknown Inuit

I took this photo at dawn on top of Long's Peak in Estes Park Colorado, August 12, 2009. The 4am hike was worth the early wake up call.

Life Purpose

Here is one of my thought for the day quotes:

"Ultimately, it is not our credentials but our commitment to a higher purpose that creates our effectiveness in the world."

One question people often pose to me is how does a person determine his/her purpose? Pretty simple if you espouse Anastasia's teachings, from the Ringing Cedar series, about the subject. The purpose of every person is to co-create. What makes the purpose unique seems to be choice. It becomes choice as to the "how" of co-creation and it becomes inspiration which motivates the co-creation.

Maybe examine the choices in your life. Do you like what you see? Do they feel correct? It is never the truth that a person does not have any choice. That is a lie which keeps a person a prisoner of him/herself. If a person doesn't like his/her choices then it becomes a responsibility to change them--to co-create.

Local Earth Day

My city celebrates Earth Day on April 18, 2009 with a fair in a downtown park. As part of an effort to support the honey bee population, restore heirloom variety plants, and to add beauty to every domain, I will be helping to fill envelopes with anise hyssop seed to give to visitors meandering through the park.

Many years ago, I discovered this herb. In my garden, the deer and rabbits ignored its presence. What is distinctive about anise hyssop? The leaves make a delicious licorice flavored herbal tea. When clipped and hung upside down to dry, the purple spears of flowers add fragrant beauty to winter flower arrangements.

If you can plant this near a window, you’ll be entertained for hours as bees diligently work along each spike getting the nectar and moving pollen and the butterflies flit among the blossoms. You might get lucky and have a hummingbird visit.Although the tea is delicious there is also a beneficial element.

Anise hyssop makes a wonderful digestive aid, breath freshener and has been purported to support lactation in nursing mothers.
You can use this similar to any of the plants in the mint family. Since this plant produces abundant seed—will self seed once started—you should be able to find an organic variety. Many seed savers on the internet sell quality heirloom seeds.

Description of a Kin Domain Repost

A Kin's Domain is a parcel of land for the permanent residence of a family, one hectare (100 m x 100 m) in size, on which a family can build its house, plant an ancestral tree, its own forest, orchard and garden, and construct a pond. The perimeter of a Kin's Domain is enclosed by a hedge of forest plants - cedar, coniferous and deciduous trees, and shrubs.

The Kin's Domain represents the solution to many problems involving the family. It is a comfortable residence, as well as a worthy space for living, which is suitable for everyone, where there is enough space for man, animals, and plants alike. It is an organization of living space according to the principle of "everything at hand." Thus, for the owners of Kin's Domains, there is no longer the need to go to the cellar according to a schedule, to go "to the ends of the earth" to get to a country house, to grow potatoes in a separate spot, go out of town to breathe the forest air or find a water hole to bathe in.

A kin's settlement is a group of closely situated kin's domains, whose owners have become united in a general partnership for the joint construction of a kin's settlement, for the creation of the appropriate infrastructure for administrative, educational, medical, cultural, sporting, and other social establishments and institutions.

- How do ecological kin's settlements differ from existing built-up areas?

- Financially the most expensive part of modern cottage settlements are centralized life-support systems - kilometers of trenches, pipes, wires, hundreds of poles for electrical power lines, etc. The main feature of eco-villages consisting of Kin's Domains is their autonomy. Autonomy in obtaining electricity may be provided by solar batteries, mini-wind generators and mini-hydraulic turbine generators, "star batteries," and other newer developments in the area of power supply.

Houses may be heated by stoves providing economical catalytic heating, a Russian stove, gas installations. In order to keep the air of eco-villages clean, it is necessary to exclude the use of coal.

In addition, there exist energy conserving technologies for the construction of residences and alternative construction materials.

The fitting out of an autonomous water supply system is planned on the parcel, consisting of mutually replenishing and exchanging sources of water from wells, bore-holes, ponds, and springs.

- Why is a hedge needed around the perimeter of the parcel?

- A question of no small importance that is not resolved in city conditions and even in the modern cottage settlement is the proximity of neighbors and the frequently common fence with them. In the conditions of a Kin's Domain, it is necessary to plan for the presence of roads and paths around each of the four sides of a parcel. Moreover, the size of the paths is not less than three to four meters, the size of the road is two or three times greater. Where there is no common fence with a neighbor, there are no boundary disputes.

A hedge, where trees and shrubs preserve their natural appearance, does not require special care in the future. Its width may be from three to ten meters, its height from 15 to 20 meters. Only in such circumstances are neighbors "not seen and not heard." A hedge is able to provide protection not only from the wind, dust, and extraneous odors, but also from noise. And tall forest trees and flowering shrubs do not provoke irritation from the surrounding neighbors, as would, for example, a high stone fence.

A small forest planted with one's own hands will over time provide mushrooms, berries, nuts; it will serve as a home for birds and animals, who have their own role to play in the ecosystem of the domain. If a forest is growing nearby, then the harvest of potatoes will increase by 25 to 30%, the harvest of fruits, from 45 to 50%, and grasses, by 100%.

The Kin's Domain is, in fact, a forest glade built by the members of a family, a type of "garden in the forest," where everything exists that is necessary for the life and nutrition of a family.

More Kin Domain Creativity

Portal to Peace Excerpt (click for free download)

Pre-dawn light blanketed the horizon when Lars spotted his Land Rover. Fatigued and blurry-eyed, he rested before continuing the last two hundred yards. The lone sheep had paralleled his descent down the mountain, keeping him company through the night. He watched while the injured animal succumbed to exhaustion. Determined to finish the crawl before resting, he pulled forward. Beneath him, the ground vibrated. He heard the high-pitched whine of an approaching vehicle.

How to get to the car before someone spotted him in his current condition? Without a passport, sporting military tags, and carrying a wealth of classified information presented untold problems. The door locks would not deter someone from gaining admittance and removing electronics.

After several yards, Lars inhaled sharply and gauged the distance. No way could he close the gap before the unidentified visitor arrived. He rolled behind a boulder. A battered jeep pulled up behind the Land Rover. Who would be out driving this rough terrain? Maybe the owner of a lost sheep?

Given the distance, dim light, and his position, he couldn’t make out the driver. He glanced down. His sweat-drenched skin, coated in brown dirt and his black clothing, created perfect camouflage. With head low and body tucked, he waited.

The vehicle stopped. The sun crested the horizon. Waves of apprehension and wariness surrounded him. The door on the vehicle slammed.

Lars heard slow hesitant footsteps, and shifted his head. He blinked and rubbed his eyes, not sure he was seeing clearly through the narrow opening between the rocks. Yes, definitely a woman. A woman with extraordinarily long, thick black hair, walking directly towards him. Each step she took caused the curtain of hair to sway, adding allure to her graceful curves, and honey-colored skin. She leveled a medical bag in front of her like a shield of honor.

Did she see him behind the rock? Impossible. The distance and obstruction between them required startling visual ability. Certainly not a local villager searching for a lost sheep. Out of habit, he slowly removed his knife. She paused twenty-five yards below him and stood in silence.

“Sir, I mean you no harm. Please put your weapon down. I have come here to help you.”

The gentle voice coaxed him into a false security. Why couldn’t he place the accent and meter in her words? Surely, not Spanish. He took shallow breaths and held his partially-rolled strike position. Who sent her? Who but the general knew his location? He loosened his grip on the smooth metal. How did she know about the knife? He sheathed the weapon while she approached.

“Zeta sent me. You are hurt and unable to complete your task. Please allow me to examine your leg.”

Zeta? Helvete, who was Zeta?

All pretenses gone, Lars sat up. He studied her progress until she stopped in front of him, asking silent permission to examine his leg. As she crouched in front of him, her black hair flowed over her shoulders and brushed the ground.

His gaze met hers and he lost himself in the unexpected blue of her eyes. Too late, he remembered his own skills at blocking such an invasion. His mental door slammed and he gathered his remaining strength and control. In that brief unguarded moment, she had gained access to his mind.

He masked his facial features. “Who is Zeta? What does she know about my task?”

“I am Doctor Wanda Dove and Zeta is my ancestor guide. And the task? She will tell me what she knows when the time is right. Are you going to let me look at your leg?”

Again, her voice sent a soothing sensation rippling down his spine. He coiled his remaining energy. The SAS recruiters used mysterious, drop-dead gorgeous women like her for interrogation training exercises.

He stared.

She blinked.

He swallowed.

She smiled.

He inhaled sharply. Now what?

Though he wanted to, he didn’t flinch when she stood, reached down, and removed his hat. Guarded and unable to trust his voice, he watched her study his head. The morning breeze lifted and dried the thick strands. Hadn’t she ever seen blond hair? Her eyes sparkled at him. Uneasy, he shifted and pointed to his leg, then tugged his hat away from her limp hand and tossed it behind him.

She knelt to remove the make-shift splint bindings, her backside facing him. He reached for her mantle of black hair, which had pooled on the ground and brushed off the dirt. Her movements stilled. He’d only meant to hold her hair out of the dirt, but the sensuous heavy strands were now wound rope-like around his hand.

She pivoted and eyed his fist. “You do not need to trap me. I will not run away. I have promised not to harm you.”

Lars looked beyond her shoulder for a moment then back at her eyes. Her face remained expressionless, and yet her eyes spoke of shock and wariness. Releasing the black tresses, he held up his palms.

“I…so sorry. The dirt…I lifted the hair from the dirt.”

Had he said that?

She made several quick hand gestures around her head while mouthing words. Was touching her hair some kind of sacrilege? She removed a cloth band from her bag and swiftly formed the hair into a long sleek braid all the while murmuring foreign words. Without further comment, she returned to unbinding the splint.

Ignoring the pain, Lars replayed the previous few minutes and her unusual psychic abilities. He itched to take some measurements, but his pack was just out of reach.

Finished with the unbinding, she slid his pant leg past his knee. At her quick intake of breath, he darted a look, assessed the damage, then studied her face. Her gaze focused on some distant point; her head cocked as if she were listening.

“Stephan Lars, this is serious. The village clinic cannot provide the care you need. With your permission I would like to use alternative treatment.”

Wary of her request, he leaned away and lifted his chin. “I have not told you my name and yet you know it. You gaze beyond this place, listening to someone--”

Again, her eyes sparkled like a child bursting with secrets. She gave a deliberate nod of her head and he witnessed a barely perceptible change in her facial muscles. Fascinating.

“I am Zeta. I am kachina. Wanda is a seer and healer. You are also a seer, a spakona, but of course, you deny this. You would not be able to see me if you did not have this gift. You and Wanda must work together, and this injured leg must not impair the progress. Wanda and I will heal the wound using ancient medicine. I would offer to remove you to a safe place beyond the human pain, but I sense your curiosity and knowledge would not allow this. The pain may seem to extend forever, but I guarantee in your time, only mere minutes.”

After a subtle facial change, he recognized the woman, Wanda, was back. He hadn’t seen her speak, yet he’d heard a voice. Pain forgotten, his fingers twitched in anticipation of recording this encounter. He realized she was waiting for his response. With his choices limited and his curiosity piqued, he resigned himself to the alternative route and nodded.

For a moment, he studied the distant expression in her eyes to see if Zeta returned. Determined not to interrupt, he rolled to his back, crossed his arms over his chest, and concentrated on remaining open to his choice.

The flash of light came first. Unprepared for the abrupt pain, he closed his eyes and concentrated on the thought of cool water bathing his leg, but the mental vision, now driven by another mind, insisted the water be replaced with heat that burned his skin until bursting into flame.

In horror, he watched the mental vision and felt the real pain of his leg turning into ash. Nauseous, he fought to remain conscious, arching his back off the ground, perspiration seeping out of every pore. With only hyperventilating breath emitted from his lungs, screaming was impossible.

The woman, Zeta, entered his vision and begged him to follow her into a safe place. He squeezed his eyelids tighter, banishing the figure from his mind. He wasn’t going anywhere.

When he thought the fire had numbed his senses and the pain couldn’t get any worse, and surely, the procedure was complete, ice laid siege to his body. Uncontrollable shivers lurched through his muscles, slamming his arched form back into the ground. Needle sharp stabs impaled each limb, knitting him into the earthen fabric, rendering him immobile.

Panicked that he would lose consciousness and control, he grasped for a memory. Any memory. One of Gerda’s trance chants vibrated in his throat and he found himself clinging to the magical sound as though it were a lifeline.

Then a fact dawned. If he kept the chant moving, he might enter a trance and lose control. He willed himself back to feeling the pain. Mewling sounds came from his throat. Teetering on the precipice of unconsciousness, he hung onto the sensations.

Over his skin came wind--the rushing wind of extreme power, the essence of creation. He watched his burnt remains mingle with water and dirt, followed by hands of air, which formed a new leg. Eons later, the wind dwindled to a sweet caress, prickling his skin to awareness.

Could the pattern be that simple? Fire, water, earth and air. Almost finished. On a sigh, he relaxed his clenched fists and found he was without pain. His heart slowed and his breathing returned to normal.

Slowly he opened his eyes. Although he didn’t know the words Wanda spoke, he understood the meaning. She was thanking the elements of nature and that unseen being, Zeta. With the symbolic gestures, he assumed she closed the energy field. A sense of peace and rejuvenation radiated from his body.

He wanted answers but would wait. His dry mouth and thick tongue made speaking difficult. He rolled to a sitting position. In silence, she handed him a water bottle. With his eyes trained on her face, he quickly downed the cool liquid.

The wind had dried his hair and clothes and the sun had warmed his body, leaving behind splotches of caked-on-dirt. She stretched behind him, picked up his hat and paused. Her momentary hesitation surprised him. She lowered the hat, her touch hardly noticeable. Was touch forbidden?

Food the sustainable way

A year of change. Profound change. April is the fourth month. If you haven't shifted and stretched, now is the time. Reclaim your green space. Food can happen. It really takes little effort. Reclaim your space for yourself, and the future of others to come. If you've never grown food, find one thing you can grow this year and eat. Even if it is in a container, do it. A miracle happens. The plants want to help but need direction. You are the master co-creator. You have dominion over the plants and animals so use it. Use it with pure love the highest intention.

"Agricultural subdivision? Isn't farming a bunch of work?" Our response is yes, traditional farming is a lot of work and the return on investment of time and energy is minimal - at best, one year's harvest and then you have to start all over again. Conventional farming methods, even conventional organic farming methods, involve planting rows and rows of very few species of plants, a scenario impossible in nature. So then farmers try to manipulate and control nature and prevent it from entering their fields with artificial chemical and organic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. By using permaculture, none of this is necessary. Some plants take nutrients from the soil and deliver them to us in their fruits, others take nutrients from water and air and leave them in the soil. Some plants have shallow roots that take moisture and nutrients from the surface soil, others have deep roots that bring the moisture and nutrients up from below. When one plant crowds out others and prevents them from growing, it is an indication of an imbalance in the natural systems we have created and it becomes our job to address the root cause, rather than just the effect. When we invest our time, energy, and thought into these relationships the return on investment is infinite, potentially feeding our great-grandchildren 100 years from now and even their great-grandchildren.

In the face of an economic crisis, we need not re-invent the wheel. Instead step into the wisdom of the universe. Look to other examples for answers. One example, very near to us, is Cuba. Out of dire necessity, they have had to shift, change, and create. See what beauty has befallen these people. For information on how Cuba survived economic collapse and feed her nation of hungry people visit: www. kindred media.com.au and order the movie The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil

Sobonfu Some, African Wise Woman

"It is always challenging to bring the spiritual into the material world, but it is one of the only ways we can put people back in touch with the earth and their inner values."

The above words are from Sobonfu Some, African wise woman, shaman, and gentle spirit to all that is. Sobonfu has been a bridge between her Burkina Faso village and the western world. She has been instrumental in obtaining money, through her Walk for Water campaign, to dig wells so that the people of Burkina Faso may maintain kin domains. Growing and finding food in the natural environment has become a constant concern for these villages of indigenous citizens as the government takes away land forcing movement beyond the eco-environment for which they are familiar. You can visit Sobonfu's website to get more details on her projects. I highly recommend her books. I have read all of them and play the CD set just to hear her voice, a voice resounding with truth, joy, and love. Below is information about her latest release. If you know someone who works with children, has children, or is thinking about having children, direct them to her book.

Welcoming Spirit Home: Ancient African Teachings to Celebrate Children and Community

In this elegantly packaged book, Sobonfu Somé shows how today's parents can learn from the Dagara tribe's teachings and explains why children are considered the soul of every Dagara village. And how each child, in the African view of things, is valuable and irreplaceable. Along with elders, they are the VIPs of tribal life. In order to illustrate just what this means, Somé outlines nine rituals connected with the incoming soul of a child enacted during preconception, pregnancy, the birth process, and afterwards. These rituals accent the child's purpose and his or her meaningful role in the context of the community. After reading Welcoming Spirit Home, you'll want to give more attention and intention to the celebration of your children's birth, growth, and role in the larger community. Ritual, on these pages, is the sacred path to what Somé calls "continuous prayer." "This is a teacher who can help us put together so many things that our modern Western World has broken,"
-- Alice Walker, Author of The Color Purple.

Eco-Villages a way to care for the Earth

Anyone need some work, or a life purpose? If so, look no further than your own backyard. There are billions of openings for hardworking folks in the field of Permaculture, with demand for people to grow their own food, produce renewable energy, build sustainable communities and heal damaged ecosystems! Thanks to corporate plunder, our once abundant natural resources are in rapid decline. As fossil fuels diminish and global oil prices rise, much of the job market will become unstable. What’s the unemployed truck driver, factory worker, industrial farmer, corporate executive and the rest of us to do? Work for the Earth! This big blue ball we have been living on needs every hand she can get. There are Permaculture jobs to suit everyone. You can design food systems, heal the soil, purify water, provide habitat for wildlife and produce tons of organic food on as little as a quarter of an acre. Jobs building energy-saving homes with local materials like recycled lumber, cob and straw bale are in high demand. These homes use passive solar energy, living roofs, grey water recycling and composting toilets. The ancient jobs of sustainable woodcutting, fishing, wild crafting, animal husbandry, weaving, baking and natural healing are returning with vigor. Educators, bicycle mechanics, bio-fuel brewers, recyclers, community mediators, craftspeople, artists, herbalists, midwives and creative people everywhere are needed now!

Monetary donations invited

During this time of great shift in the world, I’ve been gifted with stories which I’ve brought from the imaginal realm into reality. I’ve been gifted with mentors—writer’s who’ve shared maps and their pathway with me. I’ve been gifted with the voices of my forebears. Through the guidance of the Creator, I’ve co-created art to share. I believe that the stories I write are meant for others, but I’ve no definition of that audience. The stories are in no way what I thought I’d ever write—paranormal romance—what is that--if it isn’t vampires, werewolves, and alien beings? And yet, my books were downloaded to me and written before I discovered it to be the hottest selling fiction genre in the U.S. Let me tell you, my comfort zone has been maxed out and I’ve had to stretch beyond all my pre-conceived boundaries. The material downloaded to me is challenging. Even within the paranormal genre, my stories break from the consensus reality of the recognized form and explore the “what if” component hidden in our thoughts and feelings.

So please, as I embark on this journey to save my Kin Domain by offering an artistic creation for monetary support, I ask will you aid me? Can you help me, not out of fear for me, but out of unconditional love? Can you search among your friends and send two special people to my website www.JulieACarda.com ? Can you ask them to download an unusual, thought provoking piece of paranormal romance fiction? Can you ask them to leave a monetary donation so I might be free to create what I’ve been called to create-a Kin Domain? Can you ask them to send two others? Can you ask them to connect to the concept of Kin Domains through my website so this vibration might rise to higher levels? Can you share with them about my future vision of an eco-village where every member co-creates a space of love--a Kin Domain regardless of monetary income? Can you share with them my overwhelming sense of gratitude and peace? Can you, for five minutes, hold me in prayer as a blessed co-created intention worthy of all I desire? Thank you. Gratitude.
